fly-fishing gear at Hidden Meadow Ranch"Sunday, September 16, Chuck guided our group to a stream just 20 min outside of Hidden Meadow Ranch. As we worked our way up stream, Chuck recommended I cast into a narrow channel just below a beaver dam. He set up a hopper with a brass dropper, I carefully cast into the small waterfall area and immediately my rod bowed, the line went taught and I was fighting what turned out to be a 23" Native German Brown, approx. 5 lbs. Took several pictures and released our German friend. An experience of a lifetime in the White Mountains of Arizona."

"Hidden Meadow exceeded all of our expectations. The staff knows how to make a special experience out of even the most common outdoor activity. The fishing was a big hit and our guide was a great talent who made sure we found the fish. The food, equipment and location were all top notch."

"A fantastic experience. Learned how to fish, caught fish, laughed, snacked and went home tired and happy."

Fly-fishing in Arizona"My daughter and son and I recently stayed at the Hidden Meadow Ranch primarily for trout fly fishing! From the equipment provided to the obtaining of fishing licenses, to the guides and fishing adventures, and Oh Yes, the meals we weren't in need of a thing! We caught fish in abundance! What we really caught was how genuine the management and staff was to our every need and how polite all were. It was a fantastic experience and I would whole heartedly recommend this ranch! For horseback riding too!"

"This is a great place to come on vacation or any occasion for that matter. During my whole stay here I never heard the word no. Every one that works here is extremely personable. The food is amazing and the chef reall knows what he is doing. Everything here is top notch, and I have no complaints."

"Hidden Meadow Ranch in the White Mountains of Arizona is a special place. The facilities are top notch, the staff is, in a word, outstanding, the kitchen is superb. The trail rides are everything you could hope for in mountain riding. And that leads us to the fly fishing. Being endorsed by Orvis in and of itself speaks volumes, but experiencing it first hand is special. This was my first fly fishing experience, but I am well versed in other fresh water and salt water fishing. The instruction was beyond comparable, the stream was a challenge, and would be for fly fishing veterans as well. In total, the five days spent at HMR surpassed all expectations. If you like superior accommodations, gourmet cuisine, top notch equestrian facilities, and world class fly fishing, HMR is the place for you."

"Incredible experience! Steady catch all morning of 16-19" Apache trout. Site fishing in crystal clear waters. Our guide, Chris was enjoyable and very knowledgable. We will be back!"

fly-fishing at Hidden Meadow Ranch"Having fished most of my life, from the Pacific Coast of Southern California, up to the Queen Charlottes in BC, and along the trout streams of the Rocky Mountains; I thought nothing could match trout fishing in Colorado. That is until I was guided by Allan at Hidden Meadow Ranch. Just a short ride from the Lodge, we happened upon a beautiful twisting stream along the Little Colorado. Following Allan's expert advise, we were quickly into some great action and some beautiful rainbow and german browns. Our experience at Hidden Meadow Ranch exceeded expectations, from the spacious accommodations to the world class food and service. Since discovering Hidden Meadow Ranch, right here in our home state, we are already planning our next trip."

"My wife and I have had the great pleasure of going on fishing adventures with Allen twice while in the White Mountains at Hidden Meadow Ranch. We are both novices at best, but have been with other guides before elsewhere.  Simply put, Allen was fabulous! Let me count the ways.  PATIENT – check.  KNOWLEDGEABLE about local CONDITIONS, FISH, FLIES, INSECTS – check.  Working tirelessly on our TECHNIQUE or lack thereof – check.  HELPING both of us attempt things we had not tried to do before – check.  Great LOCAL STORIES, HISTORY and GEOLOGY -- check.   All this would have made for a great time but Allen made it absolutely fabulous by insisting we bring our very large Chocolate Lab named Winston along in HIS TRUCK. We learned a great deal, and all had a very memorable day. THANKS, ALLEN!"

"Allen, I just wanted to thank you for the outstanding experience on our fly fishing trip to the Little Colorado.  You demonstrated all the best traits of an experienced guide.  It was especially enjoyable to watch the patience you had with the less experienced anglers, me included.  Small streams with abundant overgrowth are always a challenge but you made it fun. It is easy to see that you love what you do. I look forward to seeing you again on some future expedition to Hidden Meadow Ranch."

"My wife and I spent several days at Hidden Meadow Ranch and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.  There were three wonderful memories from our visit.  First, the location is remote yet when you finally get to the ranch, the physical infrastructure is very impressive.  The cabin we stayed in made us feel at home right away, and the Ranch House dining room is one of the most impressive I've seen.  The Ranch even has a very complete gift shop.  Second, the entire staff was very accommodating and friendly.  Third, the fly fishing for large trout was among the best I've ever experienced.  I was fortunate to have been guided by Allen Douglas and had one of the most memorable fishing trips in my 20 years of fly fishing.  I used to think only Montana or Idaho had great trout fishing, but the little-known secret is that there is wonderful fly fishing in eastern Arizona and an outstanding lodge to stay at.  We look forward to a return visit when our travels take us back to Arizona."
