White Mountains Fisheries

Large Streams

The large-stream fishing locations in the White Mountains include the Black River and stretches of the White River.  The Ranch has an assortment of chest waders, wading shoes and wading sticks for guest use to access these waters comfortably and effectively.  Guided trips to these waters are typically full-day excursions with experienced guides leading guests to favorite stretches of the streams dependent on seasons, weather and hatches.  For anglers wanting to try the latest in mid-weight tackle for this kind of fishing, a selection of 5- and 6-weight rods are available.

Small Streams

Among the best fly fishing in the White Mountains are the scenic small streams that can be fished with wading shoes or hip waders.  These smaller streams include the Little Colorado, Silver Creek, Diamond Creek and Bonita Creek, as well as stretches of private waters.  These streams require strategy and skill to pull fish from intermittent pools and from under overhanging vegetation.  Wading shoes and a selection of 3- to 4-weight fly rods are available for Ranch guests.  Lightweight small-scale tackle allows guests to access this strategic and satisfying type of mountain fly fishing.

Carnero Lake near Hidden Meadow RanchStillwaters

The White Mountains area has dozens of lakes that offer great fishing for trout and other specimens.  Frequently the most effective way to enjoy these serene high-altitude lakes is with an individual float or pontoon boat.  HMR has several of these individual craft available for guests.  One of the most productive of these lakes is almost adjacent to the Ranch, reachable within minutes.
